Lloyd Atkinson


Dr. Lloyd Atkinson joined Perigee Investment Counsel Inc.  in 1994. Responsible for economic research and asset mix, Atkinson is heavily focused on marketing and client service. 

Prior to joining Perigee, Lloyd Atkinson was Executive Vice President and Chief Economist for the Bank of Montreal. Before that, he served two years as Deputy Assistant Director at the U.S. Congressional Budget Office in Washington, D.C., and two years as Senior Economist at the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress. Lloyd has taught at a number of U.S. universities including the University of Michigan, the University of Maryland, Miami University (Oxford, Ohio), and the American University (Washington, D.C.). He has also served as a consultant to the New York and Maryland State governments, and to the U.S. delegations to the IMF and the World Bank. 

Lloyd Atkinson received his B.A. degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Windsor (1965), and his Ph.D. degree in Economics from the University of Michigan (1969). He was the recipient of several academic awards including the Gold Medal Award for Outstanding Student in Economics and Political Science at the University of Windsor (1965), the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship (1965), and the University of Michigan Rackham Dissertation Prize (1968).

Lloyd Atkinson is the author of several books as well as scholarly articles on a variety of subjects, including budget deficits, tax policy and investment behaviour , the unemployment and inflation trade-off, energy, poverty, trade reform and the use of input-output models for business planning. 

In 1994, Lloyd and his team of economists at the Bank of Montreal were awarded the Peat Marwick "Most Accurate Predictor" Award for the years 1988-1993. 
He is Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee of the Canadian Council for International Business, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Donwood Institute.
