John Crispo

Controversial is a label that has often been applied to the outspoken John Crispo, Professor Emeritus of Political Economy in the Faculty of Management at the University of Toronto. Crispo admits that he is "one of the last remaining old-fashioned Swedish social democrats." He believes in free enterprise with safety nets but that this combination is in trouble all over the western world.

A staunch supporter of free trade, he has had a distinguished career which spans Canada’s universities from Western University to Simon Fraser in British Columbia. A former member of the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Labor Relations, he is currently a member of the North American Committee and the C.D. Howe Policy Analysis Committee.

He has written many articles and books, the most recent of which are: Free Trade: The Real Story; Can Canada Compete?; and Making Canada Work: Competing in the Global Economy. He also has his own talk show on the RRN, which is being produced in TALK 640’s studios.

He comments and speaks on a wide range of public policy issues, is seldom at a loss for words , and is also a touch humorous and irreverent, albeit with a serious message.

John and his family belong to the Devil’s Glen Club and Mad River Golf Club, a combination of names which some people claim to represent his character.
