Jack Donohue

Jack Donohue led the Canadian Men's basketball team from obscurity in 1972 to a fourth place finish in the 1976 Olympic Games.  Canada's Men's Basketball team was tied for 1st place in the 1980 Pre-Olympic Tourney.  The boycott of the 1980 Olympics prevented "the best team I ever coached" from attending the games in Moscow.  They immediately set their sites on Los Angeles in 1984 and qualified for their third straight Olympics where they finished a strong fourth.

Throughout his career, Jack Donohue has lunched with the Queen and worked with Bob Hope, George Burns and Harry Belafonte.  He has been a radio talk show host and can often be seen on television as sports commentator and a panel guest on current events and sports shows.

Jack apprenticed for his position as an internationally renowned coach the hard way -- teaching and coaching in New York City  high schools for 15 years , followed by a 7 year stint at a major university.  The New York City "Hall of Famer" coached two high school teams to a record-setting 250 wins, only losing 46, and at one time winning 71 games straight.  One of his more famous players was Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of the Los Angeles Lakers).

In addition to his coaching duties, Jack has worked with both the Federal and Provincial ministries,  served as a board member of the Sport Federation, the Coaching Association of Canada, and the Canadian Association of National Coaches.

A superb speaker, Jack Donohue's lectures focus on communication, motivation, teamwork and excellence.

Mr. Donohue has retired from coaching, but continues to give clinics to players and coaches around the world and most recently he has become part of the Vancouver Grizzlies as their Director of International Relations and Director of Canadian Development.

Jack Donohue resides with his wife and six children just outside of the nation's capital in Kanata, Ontario.
