David learned his negotiating skills one misspent night in Mexico City at the wrong end of Browning revolver while representing Canada in the World Chess Olympics. Perhaps being the youngest chess master in Canada, at the age of 19, helps explain his innovative business strategies. He organized the controversial Toronto Star Lecture Series in the late 1980s, a series so successful that Canadian speakers began calling him for representation instead. Now, the David Lavin Agency employs 26 people in three cities and represents over 100 speakers, including Fast Company's Bill Taylor, Isabel Allende, and Major-General Lewis MacKenzie(ret.).
He lives in a quiet home near High Park with his wife and 3 children. And he imbues everything he does with his slightly eclectic, always stimulating touch - which likely explains his phenomenal success.
