Alvin Law

After experiencing a sample of Alvin Law’s attitude, it’s guaranteed that your attitude will never be the same.  His humorous and realistic look at life without arms and the challenges he’s faced along the way will leave you inspired,  motivated….and quite possibly moved to tears.
The very first thing people notice about Alvin Law is that he does not have arms… the next thing is that he has something much more important - "an attitude".  Alvin was born without arms in 1960 as one of Canada’s first Thalidomide babies and was never expected to be independent, in fact, the doctors told his parents that he would require full-time care for the rest of his life.  His biological parents decided then that they would give him up for adoption, not believing they could cope with that kind of responsibility and be able to provide him with the proper care.  He was quickly adopted by Hilda and Jack Law, who were already grandparents.  They instilled in Alvin the importance of a positive attitude and stressed to him the value of believing in his own abilities and strengths.  From there, the story grows more fascinating.

As a child, Alvin learned to use his feet as hands and the results over the course of his life have been amazing.  His credibility is rooted in living proof, as opposed to multiple College degrees.  His success remains linked to what his family taught him while he was growing up;  he could be whatever he wanted to be and that anything was possible with a lot of hard work and a proper attitude. Alvin was an award-winning musician in high school, a Saskatchewan Junior Citizen of the Year, and was second-youngest to ever receive the George Vanier Award for Outstanding Young Canadians.  (Another record held by Wayne Gretzky!)  He has been featured in two award-winning documentaries for CBC Television’s National Network, and one for PBS Frontline, which was nominated for an Emmy.  Another short story on ABC Television’s Frontrunners did receive an Emmy but his personal favorite remains the guest spot he appeared in on FOX TV’s X-Files.

As opposed to being physically challenged, Alvin says he has always felt "societally challenged".  He believes that everyone faces similar obstacles in their everyday lives and prefers to call them "tests of character".  Strength to survive the nineties has to come from within, and the foundation for that power is rooted in our attitude.

Over the years, Alvin has presented to hundreds of state and provincial convention organizations too numerous too list, as well as various sectors and industry groups.  If you would like further information on other organizations that have experienced an Alvin Law presentation, please let us know and we’ll be happy to provide you with additional references.  We look forward to working with you and guarantee that the responses you will get from your delegates will astound you.  Please keep in mind.. Alvin doesn’t focus his presentations on disabilities… it’s about challenges.. about having a dream or a goal and going out and obtaining it… it’s about believing in yourself in an increasingly negative world…and -   it’s about life, something we all have in common.
