Michael Smyth has quickly become known as one of the most prominent political commentators and public speakers available in British Columbia, thanks to his satirically entertaining, insightful, and bang-on political analysis. The provincial affairs columnist for the Vancouver Province, which he joined in September, 1996, Smyth has rapidly established himself throughout BC with his controversial and entertaining political viewpoints, building a huge following. His column appears four times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays and regular readers know to flip to page six for the latest rundown on what’s happening in BC politics.
Michael joined the Province after eight years with the Canadian Press, Canada’s national news agency. Four of those years were spent covering Toronto news stories and the last four in BC.
Born and educated in Toronto, graduating from Ryerson in 1986 with a Bachelor of Applied Arts, Journalism, Michael can be heard every Monday morning at 8:40 AM on the Rafe Mair Show on CKNW radio and on CBC Radio’s Daybreak program (heard throughout the interior on Friday’s at 7:15 AM). He also provides regular political commentary on UTV News and CBC Newsworld, and has a loyal following as the voice of Don Cherry on CBC Radio’s Early Edition, where his humorous impression of the hockey legend offering his thoughts on BC politics has garnered rave reviews.
