Silverstein's expertise on complex issues of real estate law and investment is widely recognized. Since being called to the Ontario bar (he graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1975), Silverstein has practiced law in Toronto, specializing in real estate and mortgages. He has taught mortgage financing and home-buying courses at several Ontario community colleges, served as vice-chairman of the committee of adjustment for the booming Township of Vaughan (1986-89); and spoken at scores of seminars and conferences on real-estate topics. In recent months, crowds of more than 1,000 turned up to hear him address seminars in Toronto and Vancouver.
What distinguishes Silverstein from most other real estate advisers is both his comprehensive grasp of legal nuances, and his ability to offer readers and listeners (and clients!) solid tips and suggestions for saving thousands of dollars. In recent columns, for example, he has explained how first-home buyers can take advantage of land transfer tax rebates; how to use new rules governing RRSPs and the lifetime capital gains exemption, contained in the last federal budget; and how to negotiate more favourable mortgage terms.
So whether you're contemplating the purchase of your first home, the sale of the family cottage, or the acquisition of an investment property, Silverstein can be counted on to have the answers to your questions.
