| Susan Sommers is an award-winning journalist, marketing consultant, teacher and speaker with over twenty-five years of experience in communications. |
Since 1982, Ms. Sommers founded her own agency, Susan Sommers & Associates Inc., which has designed marketing publicity programs for a variety of clients throughout North America, including The Metro Toronto Convention Centre, The Toronto Blue Jays, McClelland & Stewart Publishers, Designers Ontario, The Second Cup, Moneysworth & Best Shoe Repair, Imago Restaurants, Era Advertising, Forever Plaid, Barter Business Exchange, The Super Markets Show, and The Volunteer Centre of Toronto.
As Marketing Director for Olympia & York Developments Limited at First Canadian Place for two years, Ms. Sommers created and implemented a comprehensive marketing program of special events, newsletters, media campaigns, and advertising for the downtown retail and restaurant complex.
Since 1990, she has designed and delivered seminars, workshops, presentations, and in-house training to corporations, retailers, business owners, associations, and non-profit and government agencies throughout North America.
During her ten years as a journalist and author, Ms. Sommers wrote weekly columns for The Globe and Mail and The Toronto Star, as well as feature articles for a variety of consumer and trade publications. She is the author of the book, Handmade In Ontario, published by Van Nostrand Reinhold in 1976.
Ms. Sommers currently teaches credit courses and seminars in marketing, public relations, and media relations, through the Continuing Education Departments at University of Toronto, The University of Western Ontario, and George Brown College.
Ms. Sommers holds a Masters Degree from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Syracuse University. She received a Public Relations Certificate from the University of Toronto.
She is currently writing a book, Building Media Relationships, which will be published by Irwin Publishing in 1999.
