Paul Hoffert
One of Canada's most prolific and revolutionary thinkers recently released
his first book, THE BAGEL EFFECT. This best seller does for technology
what BOOM, BUST, and ECHO did for demographics. Paul Hoffert is founder
and
director of CulTech Research Centre, a high-tech think-tank at York
University that is changing the way governments and corporations think
about how people really use technology. Paul is one high-tech visionary
who is firmly grounded in reality.
He studied mathematics and physics at the University of Toronto and later worked at the National Research Council, but that didn't stop him from signing a million dollar record contract as the co-founder of the legendary Canadian rock band LIGHTHOUSE. Paul was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
A performer at heart and a thinker by nature, Paul is the perfect speaker
to talk about the collision of culture and technology, That is precisely
what he has been investigating at Intercom Ontario, the world's most comprehensive
trial of a wired, interactive community in Newmarket, Ontario - the first
results about how new digital technologies and connectivity
impact people at work, home, and play.
Paul's dynamic and enlightening presentations sift through the hype about technology and information, channeling the data into identifiable trends and predictable outcomes. Paul shows us how we can anticipate - with confidence and optimism - the changes we face in the economy, technology, social services, industry, and mass culture.
Paul is currently Chairman of the Bell New Media Fund, former Chairman of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, and former Chairman of the Ontario Arts Council.
